Moscow--A law designed to establish an overarching framework for Russian science may be in jeopardy. A compromise version of the legislation was passed by the Duma, Russia's parliament, last year, but some wording was apparently changed before it went to President Boris Yeltsin for his signature. It has been alleged that the changes were designed to strengthen the status of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Yeltsin has ordered an investigation, and if the changes are more than minor corrections, he could veto the law.
