From 17 to 22 December, chemists from around the Pacific Rim converged on Honolulu, Hawaii, for an assembly held every 6 years: the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies. The researchers heard reports of many advances, including the invention of square molecules with twists and plants engineered to make insect-killing viruses.
