Clever technology may succeed in opening some fast lanes on the Internet for scientific users who need high capacity. But many Internet researchers say that keeping those fast lanes from clogging like the rest of the Internet will also require a pricing structure, so that when the network is congested, bandwidth will go to the users who pay extra for it. Congestion pricing may conflict with the egalitarian culture of the Internet, but the technology for implementing it is within reach. Computers/Math
